As told by Chet Hogan:
I was married with four children. We were married in 1982. She had two
more children and everything went great for a long time.

One day oil prices bottomed out and a whole lot of folks were moving to
bigger cities to look for better jobs. They were either laid off or the
business folded and went under. My family and I had to get on food
stamps just to try and get by until maybe things would pick back up again
After so long I began to feel sorry for myself because this was the first time
in my life that I was unable to support my self and a family. It didn't happen
over night but then I started to run around with old buddies drinking and
partying. Over a period of time I started using drugs and doing things that
one would never do except under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
For selfish reasons I also was beginning to run around on my wife.

The next thing I know my whole family was turning against me. I couldn't
blame them  however, because of the life style I was living. The next thing I
know, lies were being formulated, and with the help of the police coercion,
I ended up in jail for something I didn't even do. Don't get me wrong
because I had done plenty that should have landed me in prison.
However, I was not guilty of the charges that landed me in prison for 20
years of my life.

Believe it or not, I was a Christian man that just went astray.

After already being on three other units in TDCJ, I ended up on the Wynne
Farm in Huntsville, Texas. God was already helping me to get my life back
together and straightened out once again. I began with a lot of tears of
genuine repentance while still in the county jail in 1989. I promised God
while on my knees that I would never-ever go back to my old life
style...ever again.

I became the librarian at our chapel at the Wynne Unit, in 1993. I also got
involved in new programs coming in like the T.A.X. program in 1995. T.A.X.
was started by it's founder Dr. Paul Carlin of Crockett, Texas. T.A.X. stands
for the Texas Association of X-Offenders which is a faith based program
that helps men in prison so they can return to society. Later on, our unit
began a mentor program presented by (CRJMA, Christian Restorative
Justice Mentor Association) where inmates and mentors were put on a
one on one basis. Mentors would come into the prisons and mentor men
who were serious about changing their lives. My mentor was Bob Maltz
from Conroe, Texas.

After my release in Feb. 2009, the T.A.X. chapter in Austin, Texas helped
me for about 16 months. However, problems began to occur in Austin and
I was faced with the problem of no where else to go. I contacted the
mentor I had while in prison and told him I might end up homeless or
perhaps living in a tent or under a freeway with the other homeless folks
living under the bridge.

Bob told me that he would come and get me and give me a place to stay,
which he did, and I am now living in Conroe, Texas, doing well while
helping develop the new Helping X Offenders after care facility. I am
presently working as an Assistant and Grounds Manager and serving God
as I attend a local Christian church.

The old has passed away and a new man stands here today.

Other success stories of men who have stayed here are joyful and sad.
Some are back with their  wonderful families and have good jobs while a
couple of the men, through no fault of their own, became sick and went
home with the Lord.  I have pictures and often tell others of the struggles
of theses men and they all have became like family to us.
Revelation Song

Revelation Song A song to JESUS CHRIST, the Lamb upon the throneAnd they sang a new song, saying:"You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your bloodOut of every tribe and tongue and people and nation, And have made us kings and priests to our God; And we shall reign on the earth." Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice:"Worthy is the Lamb who was slain To receive power and riches and wisdom, And strength and honor and glory and blessing!"
